I just read a nationally published article that asked the question “are four year college degrees really worth the price tags associated with them?” As a college graduate with 2 diploma’s myself (one in Business and Economics and the other in Religious Studies), 6+ years later and tons of debt (finally paid off!), that article really hit home with me.
I spent years studying one subject, just to end up changing my major half way into it, while losing more credits than I care to mention due of 3 school transfers! I’, not saying that will hold true for anyone else, but I am saying that even if I didn’t make those decisions. I still would have incurred tens of thousands of dollars of debt (these days, the typical college education costs upwards of $200,000, then it was closer to $100K).
Here’s my point on all this rambling….Having made at least 10 times more money working for myself from the comfort of my own home has come as a result not of an excessively priced college degree, but because of a year or two of studying something that carries a unique quality with it-leverage.
Leverage simply means getting more done with less…less effort, less time, less money etc. Because I decided to start an online business with virtual employees like 24/7 digital advertisements, videos, articles, blog posts
etc, with almost zero overhead, I can accomplish WAY MORE WITH WAY LESS, while working far less. How’s that for a bit of irony?
Seriously, I’ve dealt with hundreds of people personally over the past year or so who balked at the idea of “investing $10K or $20K or more into their own online business and education, yet had absolutely no problem whatsoever spending $100K or $250K on a franchise that would end of being just another ball and chain with massive financial risk, ridiculous overhead, the hassles of managing teenage employees, and having to work at least 6 days per week with 70-90+ hours every week. That’s all just to break even maybe in three or four years?
To each his own, but for my wife and I, there really isn’t any kind of freedom of lifestyle, time or money like owning your own online business.
That being said, I trust this article has begun to open your eyes to the possibilities that really do exist outside of “the box.”
